About the
collection

Peripheral is a series of surreal paintings developed during a period of cultural displacement and heightened awareness. Created in response to the artist’s first months living in Hail, the works explore the psychological state of being newly situated within an unfamiliar social landscape—where observation feels constant and visibility becomes unavoidable.

Eyes appear repeatedly throughout the series, functioning as both symbol and sensation. They are playful in form yet unsettling in presence, blurring the boundary between curiosity and surveillance. What initially reads as whimsical gradually reveals an underlying tension: the quiet discomfort of being seen, measured, and interpreted before fully understanding one’s surroundings.

Rather than depicting place directly, Peripheral captures a state of mind—one shaped by cultural shock, self-consciousness, and heightened perception. The gaze in these works is not singular or fixed; it is ambient, lingering at the edges. Always there, rarely confrontational, but impossible to ignore.

Peripheral invites the viewer into this in-between space: where looking and being looked at coexist, and where awareness itself becomes the subject.
